Certificate of Compliance (COC)

Module 5: Certificate of compliance (COC)

The South African Occupational Health and Safety act of 1993, requires that any new electric fence installed will need a Certificate of Compliance (COC). In order to issue an Electric Fence Certificate of Compliance, an installer needs to complete a registered EWSETA approved course which in turn will qualify the installer to be able to issue a COC. RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) is an assessment that takes all of your past and current experience and learning into account. The RPL assessment process offered by the Nemtek Training Academy will allow a candidate to prove competency through a portfolio of evidence (POE) and a practical assessment is performed in front of a certified EWSETA assessor.

You will start your COC Certification journey by successfully completing the Pre-Assessment for Certificate of Compliance (COC): Electric Fencing. The COC course runs via Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) which means that we recognise you have already been installing fencing for at least 2 years of more than 3 installations. The course consists of a 1 day training in how to complete your portfolio of evidence and to ensure your understanding of the SANS regulations for fencing (you need to purchase the SANS document before your course). You then have 6 weeks to complete you portfolio and you then book for your practical assessment at one of our branches. Once you have successfully completed this your assessor will assess your whole portfolio and when competent our moderators will endorse the result. We then send your Portfolio and our report to EWSETA. They quality assure the process and issue the Statement of Results (SOR). EWSETA send this this to us and we send it to you with your Certificate. You will then need to register with the Department of Employment and Labour (The HQ in Pretoria, via courier or take it yourself). Once you have received your letter of registration and your unique number, you will be able to purchase your COC booklets form Nemtek and start your career as an Electric Fence COC issuer!

Outcome:

  • If found competent through the RPL process, the candidate will be recognized as a certified electric fence installer with the Department of Labour (DOL) and able to issue a compliance certificate (COC).
